SILVER DOLLARS™
SILVER LINDEN
Tilia tomentosa
‘Sildolzam’
This new selection of
Silver Linden shows great promise for its broad, yet compact, pyramidal
shape, a definite improvement over seedlings. Silver Dollar™ was so named
because of its reduced leaf size (closer to T. cordata) and good silvery
indumentum it reminds one of the coin. This new variety is rated hardy to
USDA zone 3 and should attain a height and spread of 45’ and 30’,
respectively.

STERLING SILVER®
LINDEN
Tilia tomentosa
‘Sterling’PP6511
For those seeking a
more heat and drought stress tolerant type of Linden, Sterling Silver® is a
great choice as it combines the highly attractive leaf coloring typical of
the species with a consistently attractive growth habit not to be found in
seedling-grown trees. The habit of this imposing shade tree is broadly
pyramidal and highly symmetrical. Leaves are completely silvery-tomentose
when young, later becoming dark green and lustrous on the top of the leaf,
but maintaining the indumentum below which results in an interesting
two-toned contrast. The bark is also attractive for its smooth texture and
light gray color. Finally, this selection tends to produce much less fruit
than other Lindens and is therefore a cleaner plant for the garden. This
variety is much more resistant to Japanese Beetles than other Linden
species. This tree can reach heights in excess of 45’ with a crown spread
of 25 to 35’. Adapted to USDA zones 4 or 5 to 8.

AMERICAN SENTRY™
LINDEN
Tilia americana
‘McKSentry’
The
main attribute of this named selection of our native basswood is its highly
symmetrical pyramidal habit. As compared to seedlings, this variety has a
somewhat reduced spread and consistently good crotch angles with uniform
distribution of the branches within the crown. It is also worth noting that
a pleasantly spicy fragrance permeates the air when the tree comes into
bloom in late spring. Ultimate height 45 to 55’ with a 30 to 40 spread.
Hardy to USDA zone 3.
