CHEROKEE™ SWEET GUM Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Ward’ PP10,027
Here is a sweet gum that does it all! First, it is nearly
free of gumball (fruits). The few fruits that are found usually fail to develop into the hard and pointy
things that liter your lawn. Instead they normally remain small and
under-developed. The other nice thing about this tree is that is has normal, dark green, star shaped leaves, like
you’d expect from a sweet gum. This variety also has vigorous growth that
develops as a pyramidal habit with a good central leader becoming more oval
in age. As you would expect from a good sweet gum variety, the fall color is
a good burgundy red and the bark develops those interesting corky
extrusions, too. And, on top of all these attributes, Cherokee™ Sweet Gum is hardy to
-28°F, making it better adapted to Northern regions than your average seedling-run sweet
gum.
