Populus tremula ‘Erecta’

As the cultivar name implies, this selection of the European equivalent of quaking aspen is quite erect, with a crown spread of only 5 to 10’ on a tree that can reach 40’ or better in a relatively short timeframe of 10 to 15 years.  Besides its remarkable habit, this selection has leaves that tremble in the wind, making that very pleasant ruffling sound.  As for temperature tolerance, it is among the hardiest of trees we offer, withstanding zone 2 winters, but prolonged summer heat can cause problems; therefore it is only recommended for zones 2 to 5 or 6.
