North American Plants, LLC serves the wholesale nursery trade
in the capacity of a propagator of woody ornamentals, rootstocks and nut and
berry varieties. Our own on-site tissue culture (micropropagation or
in vitro propagation) laboratory is our exclusive means of propagation.
We propagate everything we offer for sale. This means that when we book
orders, they are being booked based on our production plan, not contingent
on someone else's production and availability!
Our products our easy to succeed with: North
American Plants is not just a tissue culture laboratory; we're a propagation
nursery and our lab is actually our propagation component. This means
that we do not sell materials that are still in vitro such as stage
II or III plantlets. Instead, we offer only fully established
transplants or starts that are ready for transplanting the moment you
receive them. This means you do not need high humidity tenting
apparatus or specially designed environments to succeed with our
transplants. |

Paper Plugs: Our signature product format! All
of our transplants are established and grown-on in Ellepot®
paper plugs. We have found that planting tissue culture-produced woody
plants in paper plug systems such as Ellepot® or
Fertilpot® results in a significantly superior
transplant as compared to plant materials grown in common flats or standard
cell packs. Paper plugs contain the same peat-based substrate that most
growers use for softwoods, tissue culture, or seed grown materials, but with
on very important difference: the root-ball is held together on the sides by
a biodegradable, non-woven fabric "paper". North American Plants, LLC
was the first producer in North America to utilize this technology with
tissue-cultured woody plants. The paper plug system has a lot of
benefits for our customers, including: 1) Better root structure because of
increased aeration around the root zone. 2) Easier (i.e. faster)
transplanting because our transplants sit loosely in the cell flats as
opposed to adhering to the cell walls of a typical flat. 3)
Elimination of transplant shock or losses that occur when root systems are
disturbed by dislodging from common flats or cell packs. Very
Important: You should not remove the "paper" from the
plugs; just plant them! The "paper" will not impede root growth in any
way. Over time, it will disintegrate by itself.
Important Note About Paper Plugs:
As with any containerized growing system,
root systems are artificially restricted by the "walls" of the container.
In the case of paper plugs, this is also true. We recommend inspecting
the root systems of the paper plugs you receive for any circling or upturned
roots (which could result in a small "J" root) and take remedial action
prior to transplanting in order to avoid later root quality issues in
bare-root production.
We offer different plug sizes for different transplant
applications. These are described below: |
|
SMALL (144 plants/flat): This
is our smallest and most economically priced transplant. Small
transplants are grown in 3/4" wide by 1 1/2" deep paper plugs. Transplants grown in this soil volume are normally
shipped when one to three inches tall. Small transplants are best
used for transplanting into smaller containers (less than one gallon) or tree bands. This
is our most popular size format.
|
MEDIUM (50
plants/flat): Our medium-size transplants are grown in 1 1/2" wide
by 2" deep paper plugs. The plants grown in this soil volume typically
attain between 6"-12" in height
at which point they can be shipped. (note: heights may be less than this
range for certain shrub varieties). The medium size format makes a great transplant
into containers under 5 gallons. Also, with care and some pre-hardening,
medium transplants can even be lined-out directly in the field. We can place
your order outside for one
or two weeks prior to shipment to harden them for field planting if
you so request. (NOTE: This size was previously referred-to as
"Large").
LARGE (32 plants/flat): This item costs $0.20 more per
plant than the corresponding Medium price. Our Large
liners are initially established in paper plugs and are then later transplanted and
grown-on in 2 1/4" x 3" containers. We remove any circling
roots from the plug base that may be present at the time of transplanting.
Large liners are normally grown on a custom basis, please allow up to one
year lead time. Notwithstanding the forgoing, we do occasionally have
unallocated inventory in this size, so please do not
hesitate to call us for availability of materials in this premium size. The best application for our
Large liners is for lining-out in the field or transplanting directly to
larger containers. (NOTE: This size was previously referred-to as
(Extra Large". |

SHIPPING AND RECEIVING INFORMATION:
Shipping Options: If your order is to
be shipped, we will normally use carriers of our choosing unless you specify
some other means of shipment. We can ship your plants any
time of the year by truck, within four business days, to most places in the
United States (excluding AK and HI and acts of God or unforeseen circumstances).
Shipping charges or boxing costs, where incurred, are invoiced at our cost.
Buyer assumes all shipping expense. Buyer accepts full risk of any losses
during shipment.
Shipping by truck: Our plants are normally shipped
standing up in their original trays in our high-quality, custom-made shipping
box. These boxes are 13" high x 22" wide x 25" long. Dormant,
Large-size materials are shipped lying down in the box. Boxes are then
palletized and shrink-wrapped prior to loading. A $4.50 per box charge
will be assessed in addition to a pallet charge. For the shipment of
actively growing large size materials, we now have a special "Shelved Pallet"
that fits 1024 or 1280 large transplants (32 trays). The Shelved Pallet
cost is $60.00 per pallet.
Delivery: North American Plants, LLC offers free
delivery on orders of $2,000.00 or more within a 50 mile radius of our nursery.
For areas beyond this range, please call for details.
Pickup at our facility: If you wish to pick up your
order here, please give us at least three (3) business days advance notice so
that we can grade your order and have it prepared. It is recommended that
the cargo area of your means of conveyance be covered so that the wind will not
tatter or desiccate the leaves. If such covered vehicle is not available,
just let us know ahead of time and we'll have your plants boxed and ready for
travel on your flatbed or pickup truck.
Please note: Materials ordered and not picked up within 30
days notice of their availability or within 30 days of their acknowledged ship
date (whichever is longer) may be reallocated to other customers. In this
circumstance, the items so affected will be backordered or cancelled at our
discretion. Any deposits paid on such items may be retained in lieu of
re-stocking charges.
Care after receipt: Upon receipt of your shipment,
please unpack it immediately and inspect for any damage. VERY IMPORTANT:
if boxes arrive late, in bad shape, or there is some other obvious problem when
the material arrives; then please note any damage or loss on the carrier's
documents. If such damage is not noted on the carrier's documents, they
will almost never honor your claim. North American Plants can assist you
in filing a claim for shipping damages, but we cannot be held liable for them.
Please let us know, in any case, if you have any problems with your shipment.
