BLOODGOOD LONDON
PLANETREE
Platanus x acerifolia ‘Bloodgood’
Originally selected for good vigor and
above average resistance to anthracnose, this variety has become the most
popular and best known of the London planetrees. We started producing
Bloodgood in vitro at the request of some quality-minded shade tree
producers who wanted to eliminate the long
Shanks from their hardwood
cutting-propagated trees. With out TC-derived plants, there’ll be plenty of
buds packed down low. So the grower can stub back the plants as low as
desired and not have to worry about accidentally cutting off all of the
buds. London planetrees are famous for their beautifully toned,
exfoliating bark and adaptability to less-than-ideal soil and climate
situations. You can see them lining the streets of practically any major
city in the world (outside of the deep tropics or really cold places).
Assuming an average or better situation, you can expect Bloodgood to top out
at about 50’. Adapted through USDA zones 4 to 9.
