North American Plants, LLC propagates ornamental trees and shrubs and vines as well as rootstocks and nut varieties for the wholesale nursery trade. We use tissue culture (micropropagation or in vitro propagation) in our own laboratory as the exclusive means of propagation.  We sell fully-acclimated (Stage IV and beyond) transplants or starts that ready to set up into larger containers or even to take directly to the field.  You do not need high humidity tenting apparatus or specially designed environments to succeed with our products.  When you receive your order, it will be graded for uniformity and accurately counted.  The plugs are shipped in their original trays in a high quality shipping box.

To avoid the hassles and risks during grading and transplanting that are associated with common flat or cell flat growing systems, we choose to grow and sell our transplants in plugs.  Plugs contain the same peat-based substrate that most growers use to root softwood cuttings or acclimatized tissue culture plantlets, but with one key difference: the substrate in plugs is sheathed in a light, non-woven fabric that is biodegradable.  This fabric does not impede root growth, but it does give a better quality root system because there is some amount of air-pruning and because the substrate is supported and contained.  Thus, the root ball is not disturbed when grading or dislodging the plants from the tray, thus avoiding the setbacks that occur when the rootball falls apart and roots are broken.  We offer different plug sizes for different transplant applications.  These are described below:

SMALL (STAGE IV):  This is our smallest and most economically priced transplant.  The small plug measures 2x4 cm and comes 144 per flat.  This volume of substrate allows us to grow a plant not normally exceeding three inches in height.

MEDIUM:  Medium plugs that measure 3x4 cm and come 98 per flat.  The additional soil volume allows us to produce a slightly larger transplant than the above size, usually between three to six inches tall, depending on the species and the time of year it is produced.

LARGE: The largest plug we use is 4x6 cm in dimension and comes 54 plugs per flat.  This gives roughly the same volume of substrate as a Landmark® 72 deep tray. Large transplants typically measure between 6"-12" in height.   Products grown in the larger 54-plugs take longer to produce so customers desiring this larger size should order well in advance.

*EXTRA LARGE*:  Extra large transplants are typically between 12" and 18" tall and grown in a 2" pot instead of a plug.  This is not a regular item, but we occasionally have inventory in this size.  Please do not hesitate to call us for availability of materials in this premium size.

The best application for the Small and Medium sized transplants is for immediate transplanting into tree-bands or containers of 3 gallons or less capacity.  Most customers use these smaller sizes to economically and quickly produce their own field-ready liners.  The Large (or Extra Large) size can be used for transplanting into containers 1 gallon size and up.  Some growers even take them directly to the nursery row, thus saving a transplanting step.

VARIETIES WE OFFER:  We list the varieties currently or imminently to be offered.  Prices listed here supercede any pricelist or offerings made before August 15, 2003.  These prices may be modified at any time, so be sure to double check the prices when placing your order.  Royalties or Breeder's fees are noted where applicable, they are not included in the list price.  For those customers who are licensed growers of proprietary materials we can in most cases waive the collection of royalties at the point of sale to you.  As always, we wish to remind you, our valued customer, that we are always open to suggestions as to new products that you would like to see us growing. So please give us a call if you don't find the variety you are looking for, chances are, that means we should be growing it!

ORDERING:  For your convenience, we have developed an easy-to-complete Order Form.  It is best to place your order with as much advance notice as possible (6 months notice is a useful guideline for most varieties).  Orders specified in larger sizes or quantities may require more time for production.  When ordering, please be sure to indicate the following important information: your preferred plug size, preferred delivery date(s), purchase order number (if applicable), shipping address (if different from billing address), and very important whether or not you are a licensed grower of any royalty bearing item.

The minimum order for shipment is at least one flat per variety and the order must total at least two full flats of transplants.  We require a 25% deposit on advance orders due within ten days of the date of acknowledgement.

As far as how to order, we're flexible!  You may phone-in or e-mail, or send in your completed order form by mail or fax (please keep a copy for your records).  North American Plants, LLC will endeavor to acknowledge (confirm) your order as soon as possible, usually within three business days.  PLEASE NOTE: If you do not receive acknowledgement within one week, please call us.  Without an acknowledgement we cannot be deemed to have received your order.  For additional details about ordering, please see the Terms and Conditions section.
